Background

Ballyoran Primary School is dedicated to supporting the wellbeing and development of all its pupils. Recognising the importance of sensory regulation and movement in learning, the school sought to enhance its environment with a purposeful sensory space.

Working alongside Roisin McGuire, Learning Support Coordinator and Vice Principal at Ballyoran Primary School, Creative Activity collaborated to design and install a bespoke sensory circuit for the foundation stage corridor that would bring both fun and function to the school’s daily routine.

Challenges

The Foundation Stage team identified a key challenge: pupils needed regular movement breaks to support focus, attention, and sensory regulation, but there was no dedicated space available for these essential activities.

The school required a solution that would fit within existing corridors, minimising disruption to classroom learning while still offering a rich sensory experience that could support alerting, organising, and calming activities throughout the school day.

The Solution

Creative Activity’s design team, led by Gavin, worked closely with Roisin and the Ballyoran staff to transform the Foundation Stage hallway into a dynamic and engaging sensory circuit.
The circuit was intentionally designed to support a full sensory journey - from alerting movements that boost energy, to organising activities that promote balance and coordination, and calming pathways that encourage focus and regulation.

The installation features:

  • Vibrant visuals to capture attention and inspire engagement

  • Tactile pathways to stimulate touch and motor coordination

  • Interactive elements to encourage movement, exploration, and fun

This transformation created a functional solution that integrates seamlessly into the school’s daily routines.

Results

The new sensory circuit has completely transformed the Foundation Stage hallway into a space that promotes both movement and mindfulness. Children now have a dedicated area for sensory exploration and movement breaks without leaving their learning environment.
Staff have noticed improved focus, engagement, and regulation among pupils who regularly use the circuit, and the space has quickly become an integral part of the school day.

Feedback

“It’s now a space where wellbeing and learning go hand in hand, so thank you to Gavin from Creative Activity for all his efforts throughout this process.”

Feedback

"The process of working with Creative Activity has been really seamless. They came down, measured the room, recommended the correct equipment, and it was fitted within a few days. It’s been really beneficial, and I would highly recommend working with them in the future—especially for anyone considering a sensory room or identifying a need for one."
